Community Change Expo

I work with an organization called Hana Retreat (dba Ala Kukui) that received a Mo' Bettah Together grant to help put together a plan for lo'i restoration in East Maui, so I'll be present and have a display at this event this weekend. It sounds like it is going to be a great networking opportunity for grassroots progressives.

Presentation Day
Hawai'i’s only Community Change Expo features community groups funded by Hawai'i People's Fund and Hawai‘i Community Foundation

Come be inspired at Hawai'i’s only Community Change Expo on Saturday, May 19, 2007, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., on the grounds of the Church of the Crossroads, at 1212 University Avenue (next to the Varsity Theater).

Celebrate the creativity of local community-based organizations at Hawai'i People's Fund Presentation Day! See displays and exhibits from groups that were awarded a grant last year. Support grass roots activists engaged in vital community work. Enjoy refreshments and exchange information with other people working to improve our islands. A brief program from 3:45 p.m. will include talks by selected Hawai‘i People’s Fund grantees.

Continued in the extended entry...

This year, Hawai'i People's Fund is partnering with the Hawai‘i Community Foundation to host this captivating and remarkable event. Presentation Day exhibits will feature dynamic and interactive exhibits by nearly fifty grantees of each of the two Hawai'i-based foundations. Pick up literature or buy something to support your favorite groups. Just come and learn!

Please Join Us! Bring your friends and family!

There is free parking in the rear of the Church of the Crossroads. A paid parking lot is adjacent to the church.

A list of the invited grantee organizations is on Page Two of this media release. As an added bonus, each of them will get a subscription to the Grassroots Fundraising Journal, a bi-monthly publication that helps nonprofit organizations learn how to raise more money to support their work. Grassroots Fundraising Journal offers practical, how-to instruction on fundraising strategies, including direct mail, special events, major gift campaigns, and phone-a-thons, as well as other tools. The Journal includes advice column Kim Klein, an internationally known fundraiser, trainer and author who specializes in training organizations that are working for social justice and have budgets of less than one million dollars.

Donations to support the Hawai'i People's Fund grantmaking program will be accepted.
