John Goemans profile; Arakaki letter

The Advertiser has a profile on John Goemans, one of the attorneys who has filed lawsuits seeking to dismantle Hawaiian programs.

And Earl Arakaki, plaintiff in the anti-Hawaiian lawsuit that bears his name, has a letter at the Hawaii Reporter site opposing the Akaka bill. I actually agree with most of what he says, and come to the same conclusion opposing the Akaka bill, but from a completely different perspective. With regard to his statement that "Over 94 percent of us voted YES to Statehood in 1959," it needs to be pointed out that the "us" included all U.S. citizens residing in Hawaii, including military personnel, rather than just Hawaiian nationals who had the right to decide the status of their country. Additionally, statehood was the only option on the ballot, public taxpayer funds paid for pro-statehood propaganda., and there was no international oversight of the so-called plebiscite. These violations of the U.S. obligations under Article 73 of the UN Charter and relevant UN resolutions under which Hawaii was administered as a "non-self-governing territory" (though never should have been listed as such in the first place), mean the vote was not a valid exercise in self-determination, but a grand fraud.
