Baron, Bumpy and Jon on Voices of Truth

The "Voice of Truth" series on cable access this week features:
  • Baron Ching, a non-aboriginal Hawaiian (not a "Native Hawaiian") whose family was loyal to the Hawaiian kingdom and who today considers himself a Hawaiian national.
  • When the illegal overthrow of Hawai`i occured over a century ago, it was a multi-ethnic nation. What many people don't realize is that most non-Native Hawaiians were just as loyal to the nation as those with native blood.

Baron Ching is one of those - Chinese and a direct descendant of the Hawaiian nation. He reveals about his ancestors at the time of the overthrow and how important the Hawaiian culture and nation is to him today.
  • Bumpy Kanahele, leader of the Nation of Hawaii:
  • Long time sovereignty fighter, founder of Pu`uhonua O Waimanalo and Nation of Hawai`i, Bumpy shares with us an aspect of himself that not everyone knows; what got him involved in creating a better future for the people of Hawai`i.

We promise you'll want more as Bumpy tells how his years growing up actually helped to mold him as a leader today who is both strong and wise.

Filmed on location at Pu`uhonua O Waimanalo, Bumpy is 100% inspiration in a setting of stunning beauty and also an example of what all of Hawai`i could be.
  • Jon Osorio
  • In this second brand new segment of our new season, Jon shares with us his own awakening as Kanaka Maoli, how it was passed down in his family, his becoming a professor of Hawaiian history and eventually head of Kamakakuokalani, the Center For Hawaiian Studies at the University of Hawai`i.

Jon also reveals background of what went into writing his groundbreaking book, "Dismembering Lahui - A History of the Hawaiian Nation to 1887," and how what occurred during that period in Hawai`i is repeating itself today in the push to extinguish Hawaiian rights through federal recognition.

Check the schedule for air times.
