Rush Limbaugh on the Akaka Bill

Received from a friend by email [UPDATE: as Ken notes in the comments, it was published in the Hawaii Reporter, which I didn't realize until I got the Google alert on it]:
This is the transcript of the May 31, 2005, Rush Limbaugh radio broadcast, where Mr. Limbaugh shares his views on the Akaka Bill, which is now pending in Congress.

Now get this.

A Senate Dem ... this is from yesterday's Washington Times. A Senate Democrat is pushing a bill that would allow a separate government for ethnic Hawaiians. Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle and other Republicans also support the bill which critics say would have dire ramifications beyond Hawaii.

"By creating a race-based government in the United States we would be enhancing a trend toward the Balkanization of our culture", said Senator John Kyl of Arizona, Senate Republican Policy Committee Chairman. This would be the first time that we would actually be granting a race-based government entity within the United States.

The bill is sponsored by Hawaii Senator Daniel Akaka, and it would designate ethnic Hawaiians, thought to account for about 20% of the state's population, as an indigenous people, comparable to American Indians and Alaska natives.

"All my bill does is clarify the political and legal relationship between Native Hawaiians and the United States, thereby establishing parity in the federal policies toward American Indians, Alaska natives and native Hawaiians", Mr. Akaka told the Washington Times last week.

In March, Mrs. Lingle, the Governor, said the bill would help preserve ethnic Hawaiian culture. She denied critics claims that federal recognition of native Hawaiians constitutes a race-based preference or racial discrimination.

Now, does anybody want to call and argue with me about multiculturalism again?

Anybody want to call and talk to me about it? Cause I remember when we had a big brouhaha about that, about three weeks ago a number of people called and told me I didn't know what multiculturalism was all about and I said "Yes I do" and I know who the multiculturalists are and I know why they're motivated, or how they're motivated and I know what they're trying to do.

They're trying to basically bust up the single distinct American culture that has been established for over 200 years. This word Balkanization that Senator Kyle used is a pretty good one. This kind of thinking is gonna be our undoing because if you take this out to it's logical conclusion, you have a government where only women can adjudicate cases and resolve issues among women, and then take it to whatever degree you want; blacks, others, others being Hispanics, throughout the continental United States, not just in one state there's no telling where this can end up. So keep a sharp eye on this, as we will as well.
