More iwi found at Ward site, press conference this morning


Advertiser reports that 36 additional sets of iwi have been found at the Kaka'ako Ward Village Shops construction site to be the future home of Hawai'i's first Whole Foods Market, in addition to 11 sets found previously.

Purpose: Speak Out in Defense of 47 Sets of Iwi Kupuna Disturbed at Site

SPEAKERS:

Ka‘anohi - voice of kupuna being ignored (11 v. 47) without redesign of project
Ka‘iana - lack of notice to OHA as required by law denies participation
Moses - usurpation by SHPD of jurisdiction over previously identified burials over the authority of the O‘ahu Island Burial Council
Kawika - lack of notice to O‘ahu Island Burial Council as required by law; close vote 6-4 might have changed if greater concentration known
Halealoha - pattern of improper disturbances reveals true impact on iwi kupuna of the urban core of Honolulu (Wal Mart, Kamake‘e Street, Honuakaha)
