Akaka bill on blogs; secession okay for Christians?

The Akaka bill is being picked up (again) in the right hemisphere of the blogosphere, seemingly stimulated by the Senate Republican Policy Committee report, with a commentary by Robert Zirkelbach on WorldNetDaily, and another post by Mary Katherine at WizBangBlog.

But get this. Ironically, the top headline article on the WND home page right now is about a group of "Fed up Christian families moving toward 'secession'"!

From the WND article on the Akaka bill:
The bill seeks to extend the right of self-determination and self-governance to Native Hawaiians that is currently granted to Native Americans. It speaks to the "right" of Native Hawaiians to govern themselves, to be autonomous in their internal affairs and to be economically self-sufficient.

Where exactly does this "right" come from? Can any group that feels wronged by our government justly claim the "right" of autonomous control over its own affairs?

On the other hand, one of the ChrisianExodus members is quoted as saying:
"I do not discount the possibility that the federal government or the rest of the 'union' may not agree with our objectives or core politics. So secession may be a very real alternative – and is as I believe our constitutional right if things lead to that."

And WND has a poll up asking what their readers think of it, and over 20% say:
It's strategically smart and constitutionally valid – the idea should be pursued

Heh.

Even though the Akaka bill isn't about independence, much less secession, it makes for a pretty interesting juxtaposition and double standard, especially considering that the RPC report does (inaccurately) reference secession, which triggered Gov. Lingle to get asked about it at the marine base last week.

Separate from the Akaka bill, a strong legal case can be made that Hawaii is in fact an independent country under prolonged occupation, but this is not about secession. There was never a valid cession or acquisition of Hawaii's sovereignty or territory by the United States. No cession, no secession. We do not seek to secede from the union. We seek to expose the legal facts that show that Hawaii has never been a part of the union in the first place.

Also, independence, as opposed to the Akaka bill, isn't about "Native Hawaiians" exclusively, it is about Hawaiian citizens of all races.
