Kamehameha I a uniter? He was an invader

Most holidays seem to have lost their meaning and have become little more than three-day weekends and barbecues at the beach. As King Kamehameha Day approaches (June 11), let's take a good hard look at the meaning behind it.

Imagine yourself on Maui about 200 years ago. You're down by the beach trying to catch some fish to feed your family. On the horizon you see a great fleet of canoes approaching. The canoes land and all the warriors get out and start killing everybody. This was how King Kamehameha I conquered Hawaii.

Politically correct, sterilized history calls it "unification." In reality, it was an unprovoked military invasion no different from Hitler's invasion of Poland or Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait.

So, this King Kamehameha Day, let's take the time to remember that the world is full ruthless dictators, terrorists and fascists that want to conquer our country and kill everyone just for the fun of it. Let's also be grateful that we have the strength to defend ourselves from them. If history judged all mass murders equally, the golden statue of Kamehameha in Honolulu would be pulled down the same way our troops toppled the statue of Saddam Hussein in Baghdad.

Someone has to say these things; it might as well be me.
