    To whom it may concern,
Hello, my name is Ariel and I am an undergraduate student at The University of Colorado at Denver in Denver, Colorado. I am currently enrolled in a history class called Social Movements in the Twentieth Century U.S. My final project is an essay about a current social movement in the U.S., and I have chosen to write about the Hawaiian Independence Movement. As part of the project, I am required to dialogue with people currently involved with the movement. If anyone is willing to be interviewed by me or write a couple of paragraphs explaining their involvement in the movement and their opinion of it, please reply to this post. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time,
    Ariel

    Aloha Ariel,

You have chosen a great final project concerning Hawaiian independence as the occupation of the Hawaiian islands by the U.S. for over 119 years is coming to an end soon!
I think a Hawaiian Independence Movement could suggest that the Hawaiian Islands was never independent. The Hawaiian Islands had its independence proclaimed by a joint proclamation on November 28, 1843. If Hawaii was not an independent nation there would be no need for a superficial apology from the U.S. in U.S. Public Law 103-150. In my opinion, most Kanaka know that they belong to the nation of the Hawaiian Kingdom.
A “…Hawaiian Independence Movement”, as is commonly accepted, I believe is not based upon any single entity, but in every individual whose convictions are based upon the factual events of 1893. Perhaps it would be more fitting to say Hawaiian global re-recognition. When the U.S. asisted in the usurption of the Hawaiian Kingdom government there was no information given to help us find a way back to regain control of our government, so if there is indeed a movement of any kind, it is that the global community is finally becoming aware of what the Kanaka have known for generations and that is the factual events that occured back in 1893 in the Hawaiian Islands and that the U.S. has no
jurisdiction at all in Ko Hawai’i Pae Aina!

    Best of luck!

    A hui hou!
