Dr. Sai on Insights panel

Live discussion last night on Insights on PBS Hawaii, regarding Native Hawaiian issues with a panel including Dr. Keanu Sai along with Peter Apo (OHA trustee), Faye Hanohano (Chair, House Committee on Hawaiian Affairs) and Albert “Alapaki” Nahale’a (Hawaiian Homes Commission Chair).

The discussion will be rebroadcast tomorrow, Saturday February 4, at 1:00 p.m., with an audio
rebroadcast on Sunday morning at 6:00 am on KUMU 94.7 FM and KPOI 97.5 FM.

And it looks like a video will be viewable on their website, though it’s not available as of this posting.

  • I feel that all the panelists Apo, Hanohano, Alapaki (sorry don’t recall his surname), and Sai were people who held a responsible attitude toward the office they hold. Boylan is an ace of facilitation and knowledge and ability to take on tough subjects with a grain of humor.
I was pleased to hear and see important and messy problems put on the table.

My wish follows along the lines that Sai emphasizes, “Let’s look at what actually occurred and then devise a way to move forward.” In other words, “Water the roots of the plant, before attempting to polish the shine on the leaves of the plant as a primary objective.”

Having watched the video twice and by doing so getting a better handle on the distinctions that were being made by the panelists, I am more knowledgeable of today’s realities facing the native Hawaiian community.

I personally thought the interaction was very well rounded but the issue of the Native Hawaiian roll commission and there efforts to get a citizenry to the new Hawaiian Nation should have been debunct by keanu. Peter apo says that there restoring the nation and keanu just sat there and said nothing to that? Auwe….
