Maui Council supports probe of 1893 agreements

From the Maui News:

Maui County Council members gave unanimous support Friday for a move in the state Legislature to convene a panel to probe two executive agreements related to the 1893 overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy.

Council Member Elle Cochran, who initiated county support of state House Concurrent Resolution 107, said the council action does not commit it to a position on the matter but does support the intent to gather more information.

The resolution was introduced in the state Legislature by state Rep. Mele Carroll, who represents residents of East Maui, Molokai and Lanai. It would establish “a joint legislative committee to investigate the status of executive agreements known as the Lili’uokalani Assignment and the Agreement of Restoration.”

Maui County Council members gave unanimous support Friday for a move in the state Legislature to convene a panel to probe the two so called executive agreements related to the 1893 overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy. Good luck with that because there aren’t any not in congressional records or at the Cleveland library. People are being asked to treat the queens protest letter as if it is one and it aint its own document and action.

    kealii8,

For as long as you’ve been exposed to issues concerning
the Hawaiian Kingdom you’ve learned nothing!
At some point in your life you’ve got to realize you gave
Hawaiian history your best shot and it’s time to tap out!
You should try out “Conklin U” because it seems as though
you’re pretty much in line with Dr. dumb ass Conklin’s
distorted view of Hawaiian history, plus Ken could really
use a friend as it must be very lonely being the only numb
nut trying to defend something U.S. Secretary of State John
Kerry is not willing to do!
If you’re having a hard time with Hawaiian history now,
the future will only be an up hill battle for you!
And in your case, mo betta be one american!

    Hope this helps you!

Indeed after 121 years of being usurped it’s time to separate the weeds from the flowers and the patriots from the agent provocateur

Here are the hotlines to the Lili‘uokalani assignment and the Agreement of restoration, fromhttp://kaleimailealii.org/KeanuSai_response

    January 17th 1893

    ABSTRACT
Unable to arrest certain individuals for the crime of treason because of the presence of U.S. troops, Queen Lili`uokalani yielded her executive power under protest to the United States on January 17th 1893. She stated: “I, Liliuokalani, by the grace of God and under the constitution of the Hawaiian Kingdom, Queen, do hereby solemnly protest against any and all acts done against myself and the constitutional Government of the Hawaiian Kingdom by certain persons claiming to have established a Provisional Government of and for this Kingdom. That I yield to the superior force of the United States, whose minister plenipotentiary, his excellency John L. Stevens has caused United States troops to be landed at Honolulu and declared that he would support the Provisional Government. Now, to avoid any collision of armed forces and perhaps the loss of life, I do, under this protest, and impelled by said force, yield my authority [executive power] until such time as the Government of the United States shall, upon the facts being presented to it, undo the action of its representative and reinstate me and the authority which I claim as the constitutional sovereign of the Hawaiian Islands.” In March 1893, newly inaugurated President Grover Cleveland accepted the Queen’s offer and agreed to investigate the actions of Minister Stevens and U.S. troops. Cleveland appointed James Blount, as special commissioner, to travel to the Hawaiian Islands and to report his findings to Secretary of State Walter Gresham. Blount initiated the investigation on April 1st and on October 18th Gresham apprised the President of its conclusion and called for the restoration of the Hawaiian Kingdom government. The Congress was notified of the investigation and conclusion on December 18th 1893 by Presidential message. Until the Hawaiian Kingdom government is restored, the President continues to hold, by temporary grant of the Queen, her executive power to administer Hawaiian Kingdom law. Article 31 of the Hawaiian Constitution provides, “To the King belongs the executive power.” Therefore, by virtue of this executive agreement, the President, and his successors in office, remain legally bound to administer Hawaiian Kingdom law until the government is restored and the executive power returned to Hawai`i’s chief executive.

THIS IS NOT AN EXECUTIVE AGREEMENT ITS KEANU THEORY THAT THE QUEENS PROTEST LETTER “NOTED ABVOVE” IS AND SHOULD BE TREATED LIKE AN EXECUTIVE AGREEMENT. WHERE IS THE ACTUAL DOCUMENT THAT CONFIRMS THE SO CALLED AGREEMENT EVERYONES TALKING ABOUT? A REAL OR SCANED COPY OF IT? THERE IS NONE BECAUSE IT DOESNT EXIST, THIS IS A POLITICAL SCIENCE LOOK AT WHAT HE THINK TRANSPIRED THATS ALL.

I SAY TO THE MAUI COUNCIL BRING IT ON FULL FLEGED CONVERSATION AND RESEARCH, EVEN BRING IN PUBLIC INTERNATIONAL LAW EXPERTS WHO SPECIALIZED IN THIS MATTER AND LETS PUT THIS THEORY TO REST AND GET ON WITH RESTORING THE NATION.

It appears all those who’ve posted comments then share Dr. Sai’s support of the investigation – for as many are aware Dr. Sai, in fact, assisted in the crafting of this investigative panel proposal.

I’m unclear the specific argument Kealii8 makes other than his own inability to locate the referenced agreements. (The cutting and pasting of the abstract of a published paper isn’t very compelling.)

What is compelling is that the Executive Agreements were referenced in Dr. Sai’s doctoral dissertation as well as a in a separate and nationally recognized academic law review journal. Are we then to assume that both academic institutions were less diligent in their editorial vetting process than Kealii8? Or are we to assume that these institutions with no apparent interest were complicit in furthering non-scientific theory for some unknown reason? I suppose anything is possible but highly improbable.

In any case, I’m glad there’s broad agreement and support of objective research and dialogue regarding the status of these documents. I think there’s shared interest to settle this matter in public forum.

    Kealii8,

Because of the U.S. Freedom of Information Act of 1970, a lot
of information once considered classified have now been
made public or declassified, including critical information
concerning the Hawaiian Kingdom, you need to find it.

The most important thing to keep in mind is whether or not
Ko Hawai’i pae aina was ever recognized as an independent
state. If Hawaii was not a sovereign state, no problem the
so called 1893 executive agreements is worthless and everyone
that was living in Hawaii on August 12, 1898, 12 noon, would’ve
    been converted to an American.

If Hawaii was ever recognized as an independent nation, now
there’s a problem, not only for the kingdom, but the U.S. as
well. The kingdom cannot be colonized only occupied!
The question the U.S. now faces is how to put a square peg into
a round hole, if they cannot through the assistance from OHA,
the Native Roll Commission Kana’eolowalu and U.S. Federal
recognition for native Hawaiians under the U.S. Department of
Interior the U.S. will be liable to the Hawaiian Kingdom.

If liliu’okalani was in fact a full blown head of state, she
would have Executive authority and could enter into contracts
as an executive in her authorized capacity including those two
talked about contracts she entered into back in 1893.

The fact that Keanu brought awareness to the 1893 contracts as
well as to other information concerning the Hawaiian Kingdom does not make the information his, it belongs to all of us who
acknowledge the sovereign independence of the Hawaiian Kingdom!

The one and only question the U.S. need to answer is:
How was the continuity of the Hawaiian Kingdom extinguished?
If they can successfully answer that the keys to the kingdom
is literally theirs! Show us the treaty!

I saw this link on the other site, I don’t know why it’s
not getting more exposure, however I think it makes a lot
of sense. To me its basically the same questions CEO Crabbe
from OHA sent to Mr. Kerry only this is coming from people,
can’t even say if it’s limited to Hawaiians because of how
the demand was constructed, it even ask pro State of Hawaii
supporters to participate! I don’t see anyone from OHA on
it yet nor do I see any of the signers from the Acting
Hawaiian Kingdom government like on the petition to OHA on
behalf of Kamana’opono Crabbe. This however is like I stated
above is (well at least one of them) is the only question that
need to be answered by the U.S.

As I’ve stated on the other website, ask the right question!
    You have, so I’ve answered!

E kalamai au for my behavior towards you!
    Hope this helps,
