Aloha Kakou,

E kala mai for the late notice…

Talk-story gathering TOMORROW, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23 at IOLANI PALACE at 12:00 NOON

COME share your mana’o about the significance (or insignificance) of US Public Law 103-150 (the Apology Law) that was signed by President Clinton 20 years ago.

The question we would like for you to comment on is: “20 years later — what effect (if any) has the Apology had in Hawaii?”

There will be a brief Press Conference at the beginning of our kuka-kuka.

In contacting the press a couple of days ago to see if they were doing a story on the anniversary, it seemed no one had thought about it! But they were grateful for the reminder and it did prompt a response from the Star-Advertiser saying they will run a story, and from TV news directors asking if there was an event they could send crews to cover…

So we are creating a modest, focused event to give the press our take on the Apology.

Pilipo Souza and I were already planning to have Scotty Wong video us discussing the Apology Law on Saturday anyway, so we decided to expand it into an impromptu talk-story with more people, and invite the press at the beginning to get their few minutes of sound-bites.

The plan now is for us to gather at the Palace just before noon and be ready with brief statements for whatever press shows up. Then, after that, expound a little more for Scotty to record those who want to give more of their mana’o for future use in programs. We expect this to take just a little more than an hour. Please invite others to come as well.

If you can do this at mid-day on Saturday, it would be maika’i loa!

Be prompt and remember to bring your own chair.

A hui hou,
Leon Siu
